International students

SOAS has one of the most international student bodies in the country at 55% with over 135 countries represented. With just under 6,000 students, its smaller size offers a welcoming and close-knit community in a busy city. International diversity is celebrated through various student societies dedicated to different cultures and culinary delights from around the globe.

Recognising the challenges of studying in a new country, SOAS ensures a smooth transition for international students with pre-arrival advice and guidance.

Students also receive free and impartial assistance regarding immigration, visas, and financial matters. The Students’ Union, alongside the Student Advice and Wellbeing team, provides ongoing support, with a dedicated International Officer offering personal guidance.

For students whose English is not yet at the required standard, SOAS also offers pre-sessional English for Academic Purpose courses, for four to twelve weeks before the start of term, as well as in-sessional English language support.
